Chartered in 1762, Hinesburg's history is rooted in farming and early water-powered manufacturing. Today, the village is still surrounded by open green farmland along the LaPlatte River. About 6 miles square, the western half of Hinesburg is in the Champlain Valley, the eastern half in the foothills of the Green Mountains. Hinesburg is in northwestern Vermont, southeast of Burlington and is nestled against the edge of the Green Mountains. The village contains a lively array of stores and services, a number of manufacturing concerns and several parks and recreation facilities including Lake Iroquois, offering year-round activities.
